Materion Corporation has entered into a supply agreement with Commonwealth Fusion Systems to provide beryllium fluoride for use in the production of FLiBE molten salt, a key component of CFS’s ARC grid‑scale fusion plant.

Under the agreement, Materion will ship the material from its Elmore, Ohio facility, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2025. The partnership positions Materion as a critical supplier in the nascent fusion energy sector, leveraging its expertise in beryllium‑based materials.

The ARC plant, planned for Chesterfield County, Virginia, is expected to enter commercial operation in the early 2030s and will generate approximately 400 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 150,000 homes. CFS has raised nearly $3 billion in capital since its founding in 2018 and is developing the SPARC demonstration plant as a precursor to ARC.

Materion, headquartered in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, employs more than 3,000 people worldwide and has a history of producing FLiBE molten salt, including a 2020 cooperative development agreement with Kairos Power and the delivery of 14 tons of high‑purity FLiBE for testing in 2023.

The deal expands Materion’s presence beyond its traditional semiconductor, aerospace, defense, and automotive markets into the high‑growth fusion energy arena, reinforcing its role as a key materials partner for next‑generation energy solutions.
