McEwen Mining Inc. issued a response on February 21, 2025, to allegations from the Apitipi Anicinapek Nation (AAN) concerning a breach of the Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA) associated with the Fox Complex. The IBA was originally signed in 2011 by Brigus Gold Corp, a predecessor owner.
McEwen Mining affirmed its commitment to environmental protection at the Stock Mill, stating that its tailings facility operates under approval from the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks and is subject to frequent inspections. The company does not believe there is cause for environmental or public harm from the facility's operation.
Regarding the dispute over annual payments of 25,000 Brigus common shares, McEwen Mining believes Brigus shares and McEwen shares are not interchangeable on a 1-to-1 basis and denies responsibility for shares not delivered by a prior owner. The company has provided CDN$20 million in direct and indirect benefits to the AAN since 2017 and remains open to constructive dialogue.
