On October 7, 2025, New Fortress Energy announced that its 624‑MW CELBA 2 power plant in northern Brazil had achieved first fire, marking the successful ignition of the plant’s gas turbines and the start of the hot‑commissioning process. The plant is located at the Barcarena terminal, which hosts a total of 2.2 GW of power development, including CELBA 2 and the 1.6 GW PortoCem plant. Commercial operation of CELBA 2 is expected later this year, with PortoCem slated to begin operations by August 2026. The first‑fire milestone is a key operational achievement that demonstrates the plant’s readiness to transition from construction to commercial production. It also confirms that the integrated gas‑to‑power model is progressing as planned, providing a reliable, long‑duration power supply to the Brazilian market. The Barcarena terminal’s expansion positions New Fortress Energy to capture additional revenue streams and to participate in Brazil’s upcoming power auctions scheduled for March. "First fire at CELBA 2 represents another significant achievement for our operations in Brazil," said Jeremy Dawson, Managing Director at New Fortress Energy. Leandro Cunha, also Managing Director, added that the company’s Barcarena terminal has a total of 2.2 GW of power under development and that PortoCem is fully financed with construction approximately 75% complete. The company remains well positioned to secure new contracts in Brazil’s power market as auctions approach.
