On February 25, 2025, NRG Energy Inc. announced a new venture with GE Vernova, Inc. and TIC – The Industrial Company, a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation. This collaboration aims to rapidly bring new electricity generation capacity to market to meet surging demand, particularly from computing power and generative AI.

The venture will initially focus on advancing four projects, totaling over 5 gigawatts (GW) of efficient, new natural gas combined cycle power plants for the ERCOT and PJM markets. The first 1.2 GW is expected to commence commercial operation in 2029, utilizing two 7HA gas turbines secured under a slot reservation agreement with GE Vernova.

Subsequent projects are targeted to come online through 2032, with the model designed to be replicable and scalable, potentially filling a future pipeline of 10-15 GW across the U.S. This initiative positions NRG to meet the increasing energy needs of large loads like data centers more efficiently.
