Energy Vault Holdings Inc. and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) announced the successful completion and commercial operation of the Calistoga Resiliency Center (CRC). This facility is a state-of-the-art hybrid microgrid energy storage system in Calistoga, California.
The CRC integrates advanced hydrogen fuel cells with lithium-ion batteries, making it the world's first ultra-long duration hybrid battery + hydrogen energy storage microgrid. It provides a fully sustainable solution to ensure power resiliency during Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) for approximately 1,600 PG&E customers.
The 293 MWh microgrid system delivers at least 48 hours of continuous energy supply with a peak power output of 8.5 MW during PSPS events. This project serves as a model for future utility-scale hybrid microgrid system deployments and marks a significant step in Energy Vault's 'Own & Operate' strategy.
