On September 24, 2025, Oklo Inc. conducted a groundbreaking ceremony at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) to mark the start of construction for its first Aurora powerhouse, the Aurora‑INL. The event was attended by Oklo co‑founder and CEO Jacob DeWitte, INL Director John Wagner, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin, and Idaho Governor Bradley Little, among others. The Aurora‑INL represents the first physical manifestation of Oklo’s advanced sodium‑cooled fast reactor design. By initiating construction, Oklo moves beyond design and regulatory preparation into the construction phase, a critical step that will allow the company to demonstrate engineering feasibility, secure site‑specific approvals, and begin the process of obtaining a Combined Operating License (COL). This milestone is expected to accelerate Oklo’s timeline toward commercial operation, potentially shortening the gap between regulatory approval and power generation. It also signals to investors and partners that the company is progressing toward tangible deployment, reinforcing confidence in its build‑own‑operate business model and the viability of its Aurora platform.
