On October 7, 2025, OPAL Fuels, in partnership with South Jersey Industries and Atlantic County Utilities Authority, announced that its new renewable natural gas (RNG) facility at the ACUA landfill in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, has entered commercial operation. The plant, the first of its kind to deliver RNG into the South Jersey Gas pipeline, is expected to produce more than 650,000 MMBtu (over 4.6 million gasoline gallon equivalents) annually. The facility’s nameplate capacity is 2,500 standard cubic feet per minute of landfill gas, and it is the first project to inject RNG into the pipeline system of South Jersey Gas, a subsidiary of SJI. The joint venture, a 50/50 partnership between OPAL and SJI, will also develop a second facility, the Burlington RNG Facility, in Florence Township, New Jersey. The commercial launch marks a significant milestone for OPAL’s strategy to expand its RNG footprint in the Northeast and demonstrates the company’s ability to convert landfill gas into a high‑value, low‑carbon fuel. The partnership with ACUA, the first public solid waste facility in New Jersey to host an RNG project, underscores the growing acceptance of RNG as a renewable energy source and supports OPAL’s goal of increasing RNG production capacity and market reach.
