Otter Tail Power Company, a subsidiary of Otter Tail Corporation, announced plans to add two solar facilities totaling 345 megawatts (MW) to its energy generation fleet. On December 9, 2024, the company requested the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission to determine that the costs for Solway Solar and Abercrombie Solar are eligible for cost recovery.
Solway Solar, a 50 MW facility in Minnesota, is anticipated to be fully operational in 2026 and is expected to generate $4.2 million in local and state tax benefits over its 35-year life. Abercrombie Solar, a 295 MW facility in North Dakota, is projected for completion in 2028 and is estimated to provide $23.8 million in local and state tax benefits over 35 years.
These projects align with the company's Minnesota Integrated Resource Plan and are expected to contribute to 57% of its energy generation coming from renewable resources by 2030. The company is proceeding with necessary regulatory steps in each state to finalize facility sizes, total capital investments, and cost allocation to customers.
