Petrobras’ board approved a voluntary redundancy program that will allow about 1,100 employees to receive severance packages in exchange for leaving the company. The program is voluntary and will be implemented throughout 2026.

The program is part of Petrobras’ broader cost‑cutting strategy under its Strategic Plan 2050 and Business Plan 2025‑2029, aimed at reducing operating costs amid a challenging oil‑price environment. The company has previously launched similar programs, including a 2016 initiative that targeted 12,000 jobs and a 2025 program that targeted around 1,000 employees.

Petrobras employs approximately 49,185 workers as of December 31, 2024, making the 1,100‑employee reduction about 2.2% of the workforce. The company expects the program to help streamline operations and improve cost efficiency, though specific financial savings targets were not disclosed.

Management emphasized that the voluntary nature of the program gives employees the choice to accept severance and exit the company, and that terminations will occur over the course of 2026.
