PACCAR is recalling 220,972 vehicles in the U.S. due to issues with electronic control units (ECU) that may impact systems associated with braking and stability control. The recall includes certain 2021-2025 Peterbilt and Kenworth truck models. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the Bendix ECUs to incorrectly process commands or stop functioning. This malfunction increases the risk of a crash, posing a significant safety concern. To address the issue, dealers will reprogram the ECU software free of charge for affected vehicles. This widespread recall impacts a substantial portion of PACCAR's recent truck production, potentially affecting customer confidence and incurring logistical costs for the company.
