Arizona Public Service Company (APS) has been awarded two grants totaling $70 million from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Grid Deployment Office. These funds are part of the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) program, which aims to enhance electric systems in rural, tribal, and disadvantaged communities. The grants will support projects designed to strengthen smart grid resilience and expand wildfire prevention and mitigation efforts.

A $50 million grant is specifically allocated to bolster APS's industry-leading wildfire mitigation program. This funding will support new projects, including the installation of advanced weather stations, high-definition cameras, and fire-resistant poles. These initiatives are intended to reduce wildfire risk, protect communities, and safeguard electrical infrastructure.

The second grant, totaling $20 million, will be used to construct new smart grid technology projects. These projects aim to increase APS's capability to efficiently and safely reroute electricity during outage situations, thereby improving restoration times. This investment in smart grid infrastructure is crucial for increasing resilience against extreme weather and addressing growing customer demand.
