Hesai Group announced on April 24, 2025, that its long-range, automotive-grade AT128 lidar has been selected as the primary lidar solution for all three mass production models of Pony AI Inc.'s new seventh-generation Robotaxi. Each Gen-7 vehicle will be equipped with four Hesai AT128 lidar sensors, underscoring Hesai's role in enabling advanced autonomous driving capabilities.
The Gen-7 system, unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show, features a 100% automotive-grade autonomous driving kit (ADK) and achieves a 70% reduction in Bill of Materials (BOM) costs compared to the previous generation. This includes an 80% reduction in autonomous driving computation and a 68% reduction in LiDAR costs, driven by multiple design optimizations.
Pony AI's Gen-7 platform is the world's first to deliver full-scenario, fully driverless L4 autonomy powered by automotive-grade chips and its proprietary 'PonyWorld' technology. The robotaxi fleet has logged over 500,000 hours of real-world, fully autonomous operation, demonstrating a tenfold improvement in safety compared to human drivers, with Hesai's AT128 lidar contributing to comprehensive 360° obstacle detection.
