PayPal announced on June 26, 2025, a partnership with the Big Ten and Big 12 conferences to enable student-athletes to receive compensation through its platform. This agreement follows a court settlement that allows schools to compensate student-athletes for the first time, with an initial rollout expected to begin this summer, effective July 1.
The deal designates PayPal as the exclusive platform for these payments for Big Ten and Big 12 athletic departments. Additionally, students at these universities will have the option to pay their college tuition via PayPal, which will become a preferred payment partner at select schools.
As part of the agreement, PayPal is introducing conference-branded debit cards with each school's logo. Venmo will also expand its presence, serving as the presenting partner for the first-ever Big Ten Rivalry Series and the official partner of the Big 12 Conference, allowing its use at college bookstores and for campus athletics.
