Quantum Computing Inc. (QCi) announced on October 17, 2024, that it has been awarded a fifth project from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This award is for the development of quantum remote sensing technology aimed at significantly lowering the cost of spaceborne LiDAR imaging.
The proposed technology seeks to reduce the cost of LiDAR missions from billions to millions, enabling more frequent flights to better understand climate change mechanisms. This contract is a pivotal step toward deploying QCi's remote sensing technology on LiDAR flights and establishes its applicability in diverse fields, including civilian and military surveillance.
Dr. William McGann, QCi's CEO, stated that the company is honored to support NASA in this critical mission, reinforcing QCi's commitment to providing innovative, cost-effective solutions for remote sensing. The contract builds on previous work, including using the Dirac-3 entropy quantum optimization machine to denoise sunlight in satellite LiDAR images.
