Quantum Computing Inc. (QCi) announced on October 22, 2024, that its quantum photonic chip foundry in Tempe, Arizona, has reached the final stage of commissioning. This facility, initially announced in September 2023, will specialize in processing thin film lithium niobate (TFLN) to produce high-performance optical components and photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
These photonic chips are designed to serve as essential optical engines for photonic-based quantum computers, secure quantum communications, and 3.2Tbps data rates for datacom, driven by the increasing demands of artificial intelligence. Dr. Pouya Dianat, QCi's Director of PIC and Foundry Service, was scheduled to formally introduce the foundry and its services at the Optica Photonic-Enabled Cloud Computing (PECC) Industry Summit on October 23, 2024.
The QCi Foundry is positioned to be the first US-based semiconductor foundry of its kind, enhancing TFLN device capabilities and capacity, with an anticipated grand opening in Q1 2025. QCi plans to offer early access to customers and early adopters, with initial wafer runs focusing on custom orders and a multi-project wafer run planned for the second half of 2025.
