Rogers Communications today activated its satellite‑to‑mobile service, the first nationwide offering of its kind in Canada. The service, which began as a free beta text‑messaging trial on July 15 2025, ended its beta phase on December 8 and is now available to all Canadian customers.
The platform delivers voice, video and popular applications—including WhatsApp, Google Maps and AccuWeather—to users in remote regions where traditional cellular coverage is absent. A standard subscription costs $15 per month, while beta participants receive a $5 per month discount for the first twelve months. During the beta, Rogers logged more than one million satellite text messages, demonstrating strong demand for connectivity in underserved areas.
Rogers partnered with SpaceX and Lynk Global to build the satellite network, and the service covers Canada south of the 58th parallel, providing coverage wherever a clear view of the sky exists. In addition to consumer service, Rogers has launched a satellite‑to‑mobile offering for Internet‑of‑Things (IoT) businesses, marking another Canadian first for remote connectivity.
The launch positions Rogers as a pioneer in satellite connectivity, creating a new revenue stream and reinforcing its competitive moat in rural markets. By extending coverage to areas that previously lacked reliable communication, Rogers enhances public safety and expands its customer base in regions that were historically underserved.
CEO Tony Staffieri said, “We’re proud to be the first and only provider in the country to offer this ground‑breaking technology so Canadians can stay connected. The launch of Rogers Satellite builds on our legacy of innovative firsts and brings the best technology to Canadians.” He added that the service “helps people stay safe and connected across the country” and highlighted the company’s 40th anniversary of the first wireless call in Canada as a milestone in its history.
Rogers plans to expand the service to include data and voice capabilities, which will further strengthen its value proposition and accelerate adoption in rural and remote markets.
