On March 6, 2025, a U.S. District Judge in Manhattan denied Reynolds Consumer Products' motion to dismiss a proposed class action lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges that the company misled consumers by falsely advertising its Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil as 'Made in USA'.

The plaintiff claims that the raw materials used to make the aluminum foil, specifically bauxite, are sourced from outside the United States, as bauxite has not been mined domestically since the 1980s. The court ruled that consumers can attempt to prove Reynolds Consumer Products violated New York state consumer protection laws.

To proceed, the plaintiff must demonstrate that the advertising was likely to mislead a reasonable consumer and that they suffered an injury, such as paying a premium price for the product. This ruling means the lawsuit will continue, potentially exposing the company to legal and financial repercussions.
