Rockwell Automation has started in‑house production of its OTTO by Rockwell Automation line of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) at its Milwaukee headquarters, marking the first time the company manufactures the robots in its own facilities.

The new 25,000‑square‑foot production line will assemble the OTTO 600 and OTTO 1200 models, which use laser scanners and inter‑robot communication to navigate warehouses and manufacturing plants. The move follows Rockwell’s 2023 acquisition of Clearpath Robotics and OTTO Motors and is part of a $2 billion investment in plants, digital infrastructure, and talent.

In its latest earnings, Rockwell reported a 4.2 % decline in net income for Q4 2024 compared with the same period a year earlier, driven by lower sales volume in the Software & Control segment. However, the company’s Intelligent Devices segment grew 6.5 % in revenue, and the new AMR production is expected to offset margin compression in the coming quarters.

Senior Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer Robert Buttermore said the new line will reduce dependence on third‑party manufacturers and accelerate the commercialization of OTAs. CEO Blake Moret added that the AMR launch supports Rockwell’s Connected Enterprise vision and positions the company as the largest U.S. builder of AMRs.

Customer tours of the Milwaukee production space are scheduled to begin in early 2026, and Rockwell will report its Q4 fiscal 2025 results on November 6, 2025.
