Uber Direct has been integrated into Shopify Plus merchants’ checkout experience in the United States, Canada, and France, allowing merchants to offer one‑hour, same‑day, and scheduled delivery options directly from their storefronts without building or managing a fleet.
The integration embeds Uber’s last‑mile network into Shopify’s platform, so merchants can activate delivery options at checkout, track orders in real time, and rely on Uber’s couriers to complete the final leg of the journey. The service is available to all Shopify Plus merchants, the enterprise‑grade tier that serves high‑volume retailers, and it is expected to reduce operational complexity and increase order velocity for those merchants.
Shopify’s move reflects a broader shift away from owning its own logistics assets. After acquiring Deliverr for $2.1 billion and later selling a majority of its logistics operations to Flexport, Shopify has focused on integrating best‑in‑class third‑party providers. By partnering with Uber Direct, Shopify can offer advanced delivery capabilities while keeping its core business centered on software and platform services. For Uber, the partnership expands Direct beyond food delivery, positioning the company as a white‑label fulfillment solution for e‑commerce merchants and leveraging its existing courier network to reach new customers.
The partnership is expected to improve customer experience by meeting the growing demand for fast delivery. Faster fulfillment can drive higher conversion rates and repeat purchases, while the reduced need for merchants to manage dispatch and tracking lowers overhead. However, merchants will need to evaluate the per‑delivery cost model and potential integration challenges, and the partnership faces competition from other platforms that bundle logistics, such as Amazon and Shopify’s own fulfillment services.
"Uber Direct is designed to help merchants meet customers where they are. Our integration with Shopify will give Shopify Plus merchants a new way to keep their direct connection with customers and stay competitive—without the cost or complexity of building delivery operations from scratch," said Bernie Huddlestun, Head of Uber Direct. "By partnering with Shopify, we're excited to help retailers strengthen customer relationships and unlock new revenue—especially during peak moments when speed matters most," he added.
"Uber Direct is now built into Shopify's online store and PoS, so merchants can turn on one‑hour, same‑day, or scheduled local delivery fulfilled through retail locations by store staff in minutes. Customers choose delivery at online checkout, and track orders in real‑time—fast, reliable delivery from the store without extra complexity," said Ray Reddy, VP of Retail at Shopify.
