LL Bean, the clothing and outdoor gear company, agreed to an injunction on December 26, 2024, to stop selling a line of casual shoes, settling a lawsuit filed by Skechers USA. Skechers had accused LL Bean of copying a design for its own shoes.
U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett in Manhattan approved the injunction, which bars privately-held LL Bean from making, importing, or selling shoes that infringe two Skechers design patents. The ban will remain in effect until the last of the patents expires.
Skechers' complaint, filed in July, claimed that LL Bean's Freeport shoes, which retailed for $99, infringed two patented designs for 'heel cups' that surround the back of the foot. This resolution protects Skechers' intellectual property and innovation in footwear design.
