U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Assistant Deputy Secretary Joseph DeFelice and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Frank Cassidy toured Champion Homes’ Leola, Pennsylvania manufacturing facility and retail center on May 8, 2025. This visit followed HUD Secretary Scott Turner's tour of Champion Homes models just two days prior.
The HUD executives viewed single-family manufactured home models, the Embrace Sunlight and the Embrace Calm, and received an in-depth look at the factory's streamlined construction process. This highlights the efficiency and quality control inherent in offsite construction, which addresses challenges faced by traditional onsite building.
Champion Homes President and CEO Tim Larson noted that these visits reflect HUD’s growing support for addressing the nation’s affordable housing shortage through offsite construction. The factory-built model offers advantages such as a coordinated workforce, protection from elements, and rigorous quality checks, contributing to faster and more consistent home delivery.
