The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services confirmed on November 6, 2025 that Medicare will continue to reimburse STRATA Skin Sciences’ XTRAC excimer laser under CPT codes 96920, 96921 and 96922 for the 2026 calendar year. The final rule also recognized the upcoming expansion of these code descriptors to include a broader range of inflammatory and autoimmune skin conditions beyond psoriasis, with the new language taking effect on January 1, 2027.

This regulatory decision expands the addressable market for STRATA’s flagship XTRAC laser to more than 30 million patients, potentially tripling the company’s patient base. The rule also signals a likely increase in reimbursement rates for 2026, as STRATA has submitted data to CMS supporting a higher device component payment. The expanded coverage is expected to accelerate adoption of the XTRAC platform across dermatology practices and enhance recurring revenue per device.

STRATA’s leadership emphasized that the CMS recognition validates the clinical and economic value of its technology. The company is actively working with commercial insurers to educate them on the upcoming code changes and is pursuing temporary G codes to gain earlier reimbursement access in 2026. By securing regulatory clarity now, STRATA positions itself to capture the expanded market once the new CPT descriptors take effect next year.
