SoundThinking, Inc. announced on February 18, 2025, that the New York Police Department (NYPD) has renewed its contract for the ShotSpotter acoustic gunshot detection service. This multi-year agreement is valued at approximately $21.8 million in aggregate, ensuring continued deployment of the system in New York City.
ShotSpotter has been a critical tool for the NYPD since its initial deployment in 2015, helping to address the high percentage of gunfire incidents that go unreported to 911. The system has consistently demonstrated its effectiveness, maintaining an average monthly accuracy rate of 94% in 2024, exceeding the contractual obligation of 90%.
Ralph Clark, President and CEO of SoundThinking, highlighted the nearly ten-year partnership with the NYPD, stating that this three-year extension demonstrates a shared commitment. The renewal validates ShotSpotter's role in rapidly pinpointing and responding to gunfire, ultimately contributing to public safety and community protection in New York City.
