STMicroelectronics announced on December 3, 2024, a multi-year agreement with Ampere, Renault Group's electric vehicle (EV) pure player, for the supply of Silicon Carbide (SiC) power modules. This strategic cooperation, starting in 2026, focuses on optimizing a powerbox for the inverter in Ampere’s ultra-efficient electric powertrain.

The collaboration leverages Ampere’s EV technology expertise and STMicroelectronics’ advanced power electronics to achieve high performance and competitiveness in e-powertrains. The powerbox, designed for 400 Volt and 800 Volt battery EV vehicles, combines three SiC-based power modules, an excitation module, and a cooling baseplate.

These SiC power modules are crucial for the efficiency of electric powertrains, contributing to increased battery range and faster charging times, including the ability to achieve 10%-80% quick charge in 15 minutes or less for 800 Volt systems. This agreement reinforces STMicroelectronics' leadership in advanced power electronics for sustainable mobility.
