Stantec has been selected by the City of Vancouver, Washington, to design a treatment system for removing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from a high-volume water station. This project aims to provide cleaner, more reliable drinking water for the community. Stantec will also provide engineering services during the construction phase for the treatment facility at Vancouver’s Water Station 4.

Upon completion, this PFAS filter system will be capable of treating up to 12.2 million gallons per day, making it the largest PFAS project in the Northwestern US by treatment capability. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated in 2024 that all public water utilities in the US reduce PFAS in drinking water by 2029. Public water systems are also required to begin reporting on PFAS levels in 2027.

Construction of the treatment facility is expected to commence in October 2025 and be completed in early 2028, more than a year ahead of the EPA’s compliance deadline. This project highlights Stantec's role in helping clients meet new regulatory standards and ensuring long-term water safety.
