Strategic Education’s online learning platform, Sophia Learning, announced a new partnership with the Heritage Valley Health System School of Nursing in Pennsylvania on December 9 2025. The alliance will allow nursing students to complete general‑education courses through Sophia’s self‑paced, on‑demand platform, with those courses pre‑approved for transfer to the school’s nursing program, thereby accelerating the nursing pipeline and reducing time and cost for students.
The partnership extends the reach of Strategic Education’s Education Technology Services (ETS) segment, which already includes Sophia Learning and the Workforce Edge employer‑benefits platform. By adding a prominent nursing school to its roster of partners, STRA can broaden enrollment through Workforce Edge and strengthen its employer‑affiliated enrollment strategy, a key driver of recent revenue and margin growth.
Strategic Education’s Q3 2025 earnings report highlighted a 45.6% year‑over‑year increase in ETS revenue to $38.3 million, and a 49.6% rise in Q2 2025 to $36.7 million. The partnership aligns with this momentum, positioning STRA to capture additional enrollment from the healthcare sector and to further diversify its revenue base within the ETS segment.
Karl McDonnell, CEO of Strategic Education, said the company is “focused on expanding our technology‑driven education solutions to meet the growing demand for flexible, affordable learning pathways, especially in high‑need fields like nursing.” He added that the new partnership “strengthens our commitment to employer‑affiliated enrollment and supports the development of a skilled workforce for the healthcare industry.”
The deal supports Heritage Valley’s internal candidate pipeline, improving retention and attracting new applicants, while providing STRA with a new channel to grow its student base in a critical sector. The partnership is expected to enhance STRA’s competitive positioning in the for‑profit education market and to contribute to the company’s long‑term revenue growth strategy.
