TotalEnergies announced a 15‑year power purchase agreement with Google that will deliver 1.5 terawatt‑hours of certified renewable electricity from its 49‑megawatt Montpelier solar farm in Ohio. The facility, which is nearing completion and is connected to the PJM grid, will supply the energy needed to power Google’s data centers in the state.

The agreement adds significant renewable capacity to TotalEnergies’ U.S. portfolio and supports the company’s goal of building a 10 GW renewable pipeline across the country. By securing a long‑term contract with a high‑demand customer, TotalEnergies strengthens its position as a preferred supplier for large tech operators and moves closer to its target of 12 % profitability in the power sector.

For Google, the deal is a key step toward its commitment to match 100 % of its global electricity consumption with renewable energy and to achieve 24/7 carbon‑free operations by 2030. The 1.5 TWh commitment reflects the growing share of data‑center energy demand, which accounted for roughly 3 % of worldwide consumption in 2024.

Stéphane Michel, President of Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies, said the partnership "illustrates our ability to meet the growing energy demands of major tech companies by leveraging our integrated portfolio of renewable and flexible assets." Will Conkling, Director of Clean Energy and Power at Google, added that the collaboration "strengthens the grid by deploying more reliable and clean energy, supporting the digital infrastructure that businesses and individuals depend on."

The transaction underscores broader industry trends: data‑center operators are increasingly turning to PPAs to secure renewable power, and the market is seeing a shift toward large corporate buyers driving clean‑energy deployment. While the deal brings a tailwind for renewable investment, it also highlights the concentration of demand in a few large customers, which could crowd out smaller buyers in the future.

The partnership signals a continued acceleration of the clean‑energy transition, with both companies leveraging their strengths to deliver reliable, low‑emission power to one of the world’s most energy‑intensive sectors.
