Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM), a wholly-owned subsidiary of TXNM Energy, has announced its intention to join the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) Extended Day-Ahead Market (EDAM). This move is part of PNM's ongoing efforts to improve reliability and deliver economic benefits to its customers.
PNM has been a participant in CAISO's real-time regional market, the Western Energy Imbalance Market (WEIM), since 2021. The WEIM has provided approximately $125 million in benefits to New Mexico customers since its inception, demonstrating the value of regional market coordination.
The new EDAM is projected to generate an additional $20 million in annual benefits for New Mexico customers by optimizing resource utilization across the Western United States. PNM anticipates beginning its participation in EDAM as early as 2027, with the market scheduled to launch in 2026.
