Textron Aviation Defense LLC, a Textron Inc. company, announced on January 25, 2025, that the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II Integrated Training System (ITS) has been chosen to modernize pilot training for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF). Japan will become the 15th nation to select the T-6 Texan II, adding to a global fleet of over 1,000 aircraft. The T-6 Texan II was selected after a competitive evaluation of training solutions. Finalization of the contract is expected in 2025. The JASDF plans to modernize its training program with an integrated solution that includes T-6 Texan II trainer aircraft, a comprehensive Ground Based Training System, and training for instructor pilots and aircraft maintainers. Travis Tyler, President and CEO, Textron Aviation Defense LLC, stated that this selection affirms the capabilities of the T-6 Texan II ITS to meet the JASDF's training needs for decades. The Beechcraft T-6 Texan II will replace the Fuji/Subaru T-7 aircraft, which has served as the JASDF’s basic trainer for many years.
