Textron Aviation announced that the Federal Aviation Administration granted type certification to the Cessna Citation Ascend on November 5, 2025, clearing the final regulatory hurdle for the midsize business jet and enabling the company to begin deliveries later that year.

The Ascend features a completely redesigned cockpit equipped with Garmin G5000 avionics, Pratt & Whitney Canada PW545D engines, a maximum speed of 441 ktas, a range of 1,940 nm, and a flat‑floor cabin that can accommodate up to 12 passengers. These enhancements position the aircraft to compete directly with Embraer’s Phenom 300 and Gulfstream’s G150 in the high‑growth midsize segment.

Textron’s certification comes amid a strong financial backdrop: the company reported a 40% year‑over‑year jump in aviation‑segment profit to $179 million in Q3 2025, driven by a $7.7 billion backlog that reflects robust demand. However, the broader Q3 2025 earnings miss a $3.6 billion revenue target, a shortfall attributed to weaker performance in the Bell helicopter segment and a temporary supply‑chain slowdown that impacted production volumes. The earnings beat—$1.55 versus consensus $1.47—was largely due to disciplined cost management and a favorable mix of high‑margin aviation sales.

Senior Vice President Chris Hearne said the certification “demonstrates the team’s commitment to delivering a product that meets the highest safety and performance standards while providing customers with an exceptional flight experience.” CEO Scott Donnelly added that the Ascend’s entry into service will “strengthen our aftermarket service network and reinforce Textron’s position as a leading provider of business‑jet solutions.”

The certification is expected to accelerate market share gains in the midsize business‑jet market, where demand for advanced, fuel‑efficient aircraft remains strong. With the Ascend’s advanced avionics and improved cabin comfort, Textron is poised to capture customers looking for a blend of performance and luxury, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape and supporting long‑term profitability through both new‑aircraft sales and aftermarket services.
