Unilever rejected claims on April 25, 2025, that it tried to oust former Ben & Jerry's chief executive Dave Stever for supporting his company's progressive social activism. Unilever stated it offered Stever a bigger role and more pay, but he chose to resign.

In a court filing, Unilever sought the dismissal of Ben & Jerry's lawsuit, which aimed to stop alleged efforts to dismantle its board and end its activism. Unilever characterized the lawsuit as a vehicle for Ben & Jerry's Chair Anuradha Mittal to denigrate the parent company.

Unilever argued that Ben & Jerry's pursuit of a "staunchly pro-Palestinian, anti-Israeli stance" caused Unilever to lose investors and suffer reputational damage. This response marks a direct counter-argument in the escalating legal dispute.
