UL Solutions announced a significant expansion of its heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) testing facility in Carugate, Italy. This expansion addresses the rapidly growing European demand for comprehensive heat pump performance and safety testing.
The rising demand is driven by the widespread adoption of environmentally friendly refrigerants and evolving regulatory requirements, such as the European Union’s "Fit for 55" plan. The expanded laboratory offers performance testing alongside UL Solutions' established safety expertise, catering to European manufacturers of residential and commercial heat pumps.
New capabilities include energy-efficiency, safety, and eco-design requirement testing for air-to-water and water-to-water heat pumps, focusing on energy consumption and sound power level. The facility also offers wireless and electromagnetic compatibility analysis, helping manufacturers comply with EU regulations like Ecodesign and the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).
