UL Solutions Inc. announced a new service to certify that plastic materials and components do not contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly known as "forever chemicals." This initiative helps plastics suppliers demonstrate compliance with sustainability requirements.
The company tests plastic materials for common PFAS compounds and fluorine according to UL 746G, the Outline of Investigation for Non-Fluorine and Non-PFAS Containing Materials. This new service introduces a Non-PFAS or Non-Fluorine Materials Certification to the UL Solutions Yellow Card Plastics Recognition Program.
This certification addresses rising global concerns about the potential long-term impact of PFAS on health and the environment, which are leading to new regulatory requirements across many industries. The program helps designers, engineers, and suppliers find providers of recognized plastics in the UL Product iQ database, supporting the market for safer and more sustainable products.
