U.S. GoldMining Inc. announced that the U.S. Interior Department has added copper and silver to the 2025 Critical Minerals List, effective November 7, 2025. The inclusion of these metals places the company’s flagship Whistler Project on a list that the federal government uses to prioritize domestic production of minerals deemed essential to national security and the economy.
The Whistler Project sits on 53,700 acres about 105 miles from Anchorage, Alaska. Company estimates show the property contains more than 1 billion pounds of copper, nearly 19 million ounces of silver, and 3.93 million ounces of gold. The project is currently in a preliminary economic assessment stage, with the company having announced a resource definition study in early June 2025.
The regulatory change elevates the project’s strategic importance. Being listed as a critical mineral can unlock government support, streamline permitting, and increase demand from domestic buyers who are seeking to reduce reliance on foreign sources. The move aligns with the federal administration’s broader initiative to strengthen domestic supply chains for key metals.
Historically U.S. GoldMining has reported net losses, but the company’s most recent quarter ended in Q3 2025 showed a net income, a sign of improving cost discipline and a shift toward profitability. Despite this progress, the company still faces cash runway challenges and must continue to manage exploration and development costs to sustain momentum.
Tim Smith, the company’s CEO, said the federal initiatives “encourage the exploration for and extraction of critical minerals on U.S. soil, minerals which are crucial to securing domestic resource security.” His comments underscore the company’s alignment with national security priorities and its focus on leveraging the new designation to accelerate project development.
The announcement positions U.S. GoldMining to capitalize on the growing emphasis on domestic supply chains, but the company must navigate headwinds such as limited cash reserves and the need to demonstrate sustained operational performance to fully realize the benefits of the critical‑minerals designation.
