VEON Ltd. announced on December 11, 2024, the launch of an open-source Kazakh-language large language model (Kaz-LLM), developed by a consortium coordinated by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Digital, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry. VEON’s QazCode, Beeline Kazakhstan, and Astana Hub were key partners in this initiative.
The Kaz-LLM, developed in Kazakhstan, has been trained on over 150 billion tokens and is available in 8 billion and 70 billion parameter versions, capable of interacting in Kazakh, Turkish, English, and Russian. It has been published on the Hugging Face platform for developers.
Group CEO Kaan Terzioglu highlighted the immense potential of augmented intelligence to empower individuals and bridge the linguistic gap for speakers of low-resource languages. This groundbreaking model is expected to accelerate the creation and adoption of AI-powered products and services in Kazakhstan, aligning with VEON's mission for AI inclusion.
