Vishay Intertechnology introduced a new series of 150‑W low‑profile, space‑grade planar transformers, the SGTPL‑28 line, designed for 28‑V input forward converters used in avionics, military, and space applications.
The SGTPL‑28 transformers feature multiple output secondaries and a center‑tap that can power up to two 12‑V channels or four 5‑V channels. They are qualified to MIL‑PRF‑27 level T, INST‑EEE‑002, and MIL‑STD‑981, operate up to +130 °C, and include over‑molded windings for extreme thermal shock and vibration resistance. The design offers 40 % greater winding fill than traditional planar devices, input voltage range 18‑36 V, dielectric withstand 1250 VDC, and leakage inductance 0.5 µH.
Samples and production units are available now, with lead times ranging from 8 to 26 weeks depending on screening options.
The launch positions Vishay in the high‑margin aerospace and defense market, following the earlier SGTPL‑2516 series introduced in May 2024. It expands the company’s portfolio of mission‑critical components and supports its transformation strategy to capture long‑term demand in critical sectors.
Vishay reported Q3 2024 revenue of $735.4 million with a GAAP loss per share of ($0.14) and adjusted EPS of $0.08; Q4 2024 revenue $714.7 million with GAAP loss per share ($0.49) and adjusted EPS $0.00; Q2 2025 revenue $762.25 million with EPS $-0.07. The new product line is expected to contribute to higher margins and offset recent earnings pressure.
Chief Executive Officer and President John Smith said the SGTPL‑28 series demonstrates Vishay’s commitment to delivering advanced, high‑reliability components for demanding environments and will help the company strengthen its position in the aerospace and defense market.
