Wabash announced that a Circuit Court ordered a reduction in the punitive damage award in the Williams et al. v. Wabash product liability lawsuit. The punitive damages, initially set at $450 million by a St. Louis jury in September 2024, were reduced to $108 million on March 20, 2025. The compensatory damages award of $11.5 million remained unchanged.
The case stems from a 2019 motor vehicle accident involving a 2004 Wabash trailer. Wabash maintains that the adjusted award of $119.5 million (totaling $11.5 million compensatory and $108 million punitive) is "abnormally high and the verdict is not supported by the facts or the law." The company has filed a notice of appeal and continues to evaluate all available legal options.
This reduction significantly lowers the financial exposure for Wabash compared to the initial jury verdict. The company reiterated its stance on the quality and safety of its products, stating that this ruling will not deter its commitment to providing safe products.
