WeRide Inc. secured the first driverless robotaxi permit in Switzerland, authorizing autonomous operation in the Furttal region. The permit covers a 110‑kilometer corridor with 460 stops and allows speeds up to 80 km/h, marking a key regulatory milestone for the company’s Level‑4 technology.

The approval is part of the “iamo” pilot project, a collaboration between WeRide, Swiss Transit Lab, the Cantons of Zurich and Aargau, Swiss Federal Railways, and Eurobus. The project aims to integrate autonomous vehicles into public transport and improve last‑mile connectivity across the region.

With this permit, WeRide becomes the only company holding autonomous driving authorizations in eight countries—China, Switzerland, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, France, Belgium, and the United States—expanding its regulatory footprint and positioning it for commercial operations in a major European market.

The company plans to launch fully driverless public passenger service in the first half of 2026 and to expand its fleet to include robobuses, creating Switzerland’s first mixed autonomous vehicle fleet. The permit also supports ongoing pilot operations at Zurich Airport and other Swiss projects.

WeRide’s shares rose 3.78% pre‑market on November 20, reflecting investor confidence in the regulatory achievement and the company’s global expansion strategy.

The permit underscores WeRide’s ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and signals a critical step toward scaling its autonomous technology across diverse markets.
