Zoetis Inc. announced on December 9, 2024, the global launch of its new screenless point-of-care hematology analyzer, Vetscan OptiCell™, at the Veterinary Meeting & Expo (VMX) in January. This device is the first cartridge-based, artificial intelligence (AI) powered diagnostic tool for veterinary hematology.

Vetscan OptiCell™ provides complete blood count (CBC) analysis with accurate insights in minutes, utilizing proprietary microfluidic technology called viscoelastic focusing (VEF). This technology aligns cells in a single layer for sharp focus imaging, minimizing errors and enabling platelet recognition within clumps.

The system's single-use cartridge contains the blood sample, all reagents, and waste, offering ease of use, minimal maintenance, and no calibration requirements. This innovation aims to simplify and strengthen in-clinic diagnostics, helping veterinarians save money and reallocate time to patient care.
