CenterPoint Energy announced significant progress in Phase Two of its Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative (GHRI), reporting the installation of approximately 7,060 stronger, storm-resilient poles in the last three months. This effort is part of preparations for the 2025 hurricane season. In the last four weeks alone, the company installed nearly 2,500 additional storm-resilient poles and cleared over 400 more miles of power lines with high-risk vegetation. CenterPoint also undergrounded 40 more miles of power lines to reduce the impact of extreme weather. Additionally, 20 more self-healing automation devices were installed to minimize outage impacts and improve restoration times. When completed, the resiliency actions outlined in GHRI Phase Two are expected to lead to more than 125 million fewer outage minutes annually for customers.
