CenterPoint Energy released its first public progress update on Phase Two of the Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative (GHRI), highlighting significant advancements in the first two months of the program. The company has installed nearly 4,600 stronger, storm-resilient poles designed to better withstand extreme winds.
As part of its preparation for the 2025 hurricane season, CenterPoint has also installed more than 100 miles of power lines underground to reduce the impact of extreme weather. Additionally, over 800 miles of hazardous vegetation have been cleared to improve reliability.
The company has also installed dozens of new, intelligent grid switching devices to enhance self-healing capabilities and improve overall restoration times. These actions are part of CenterPoint's goal to build the most resilient coastal grid in the nation.
