On May 30, 2025, Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) announced it received an arbitrator's ruling establishing new collective bargaining agreements with two divisions of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC). Arbitrator William Kaplan issued the ruling after multiple rounds of mediation and an interest arbitration process.
The ruling establishes terms for new four-year contracts with both the TCRC – Train and Engine (T&E) division, representing approximately 3,200 locomotive engineers, conductors, train, and yard workers, and the TCRC - Rail Canada Traffic Controllers (RCTC) division, representing about 80 rail traffic controllers across Canada.
These new collective agreements are effective from January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2027, and include annual wage increases of 3%. Crucially, the provisions outlined in the arbitrator's award do not require ratification, bringing immediate and long-term labor stability to CPKC's Canadian operations and ensuring efficient and dependable rail service.
